چکیده

This review presents the technique of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). It brie y outlines how LC-MS works, its different functions, the different types of instruments available, the applications with which it is mainly used and the costs involved. In particular, it highlights the effectiveness of LC-MS in measuring steroids and emphasizes its usefulness in measuring steroids noninvasively in animals, from matrices such as urine and faeces. The advantages and disadvantages of LC-MS in comparison to other methods of steroid analysis such as immunoassays and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) are discussed. Schlüsselwörter: Review, Steroidhormone, biologische Flüssigkeiten, nicht invasive Bestimmung, LC-MS.

Relative Determination Approach to the Metabolites of Protoberberine Alkaloids in Rat Urine by Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry for the Comparative Studies on Rhizome coptidis and Zuojinwan Preparation

The lack of authentic standards has limited the quantitative analysis of herbal drugs in biological samples. The present work demonstrated a practicable strategy for the assay of herbs and their metabolites independent of authentic standards. A liquid chromatography–electrospray ionization–mass spectrometry (LC–ESI–MS) method for the qualitative and quantitative determination of the metabolites...

Faecal steroid metabolites assay as a non-invasive monitoring of reproductive status in animals

Measurement of faecal steroids as a non-invasive technique is widely used to monitor reproductive hormones in captive and free-ranging wild animals. This method offers a great advantage over invasive techniques like blood collection and deserves to be used in domestic animals. Repeated blood sampling is stressful, having animal welfare issues, difficult to obtain in field condition. In the faec...

Androgen and androgen metabolite levels in serum and urine of East African chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii): comparison of EIA and LC-MS analyses.

The primary male androgen testosterone (T) is often used as an endocrinological marker to investigate androgen-behaviour interactions in males. In chimpanzees and bonobos, studies investigating the relationship between T levels and dominance rank or aggressive behaviour have revealed contradictory results. The immunoassays used in these studies were originally developed for the measurement of s...

Rapid Analysis of Anabolic Steroid Metabolites in Urine by Combining Field Asymmetric Waveform Ion Mobility Spectrometry with Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry.

The combination of field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometry with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-FAIMS-MS) has been developed for the analysis of glucuronide and sulfate metabolites of seven anabolic-androgenic steroids in urine. Separation by FAIMS-MS was investigated in positive ion mode for selected cationic adducts (H+, NH4+, Na+, K+, and Cs+). LC-FAIMS-MS analysis of...
